The Rules of Groom Fashion

groomEvery girl dreams about what she will look like on her big day but sometimes we forget how to properly dress the groom! You need a handsome well-dressed groom by your side on this special day so let’s go over the basics!

Number 1: Choose a suit that fits his body type.

To look your best you must wear what is best for your body type.  This is true for everyone including brides! If your man is a big and bulky guy then make sure his suit shows him off well.  If you have a groom who is a good looking thinner body type then be sure to get a suit that has a nice slim fit look.  These things are important for your wedding day since you want to each look your best.  Nothing is worse than a bad fitting suit on a groom.  You wear these special outfits all day so you might as well make them as great as possible, and who doesn’t want to show off their man!?

Number 2:  His attire should fit the setting.

It is important that your groom has a suit or tux that fits in with the setting of your beautiful event. For example if you are doing a small and cozy back yard wedding then keep his outfit on the casual side.  If you are doing a big classy wedding then a full tux would look great! This is an important guideline because he will be in almost every picture which means the look you two have together will dictate the feeling of the wedding especially in the images that you will look back on forever!

Number 3: Your attire should go together well.

This one is a little obvious but very true! Make sure your dress and his suit/tux go together well and are in the same style range.  This is the first time you become an official couple so set the style to be true to you two!  You can do anything you would like so make sure to really stay true to the style you want to represent as a couple!

Number 4: Get your suit/tux professionally fitted!

This one is critical for your groom to look his best.  You don’t want to cut corners or take any shortcuts when getting your groom fitted for his dashing attire.  You wouldn’t skip any steps on your wedding dress so make sure to give your groom’s attire the same attention.  You do this and you will each look incredible! Here are some rules for getting the right fit!

  • The jacket sleeve hem should fall at the wristbone with about one-fourth to one half inch of the shirt cuff showing below.
  • The bottom hem of the jacket should cover the butt and the vent shouldn’t pull open. If it does, that means it’s too tight.
  • The collar should lie flat on the back and sides of the neck without any gaps or bulges.
  • Pants should fit comfortably when standing and sitting and break across the top of the shoes so that they cover the top one-third.
  • A bow tie should fit snugly around the collar.

Number 5: Don’t forget the accessories.

Did you think only brides need to plan for accessories? Nope, the groom has a lot of great accessory options that will help set him apart. Your bridal party will have groomsmen who are dressed similar to the groom so having your man wear these extra little details makes him stand out and look as handsome as ever! Here are some examples of what looks great on a groom.

  • A special boutonniere that looks different from the groomsmen
  • A good looking Bowtie
  • A Vest of one of your other wedding colors
  • A unique tie
  • Some nice cufflinks

There are a lot of great things that go into a well dressed groom! Make sure to ask us if you have any questions about your groom’s style!
